Welcome

And believe me, you are very welcome.

So, what’s it all about?  Well, I was prompted to create this web site, not so much to tell you more about Shamanism, although there is a bit of that, no, it was to help others on the same path to see how valid your search is and how much you can do simply by following the trail of breadcrumbs. . . . . . .

Writing down our own creation myth allows us to start to feel where we are and who we are.  It is, or has been, an important part of virtually all cultures.  Here is mine:

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, before the world had even been thought about, Ata Ann sat alone. After eternity had passed, Ata Ann considered what it really meant to exist and at that moment from the nothingness of eternity Ata Ann became the something of now. Time, matter and space sprang from Ata Ann in all directions. Each part carried Ata Ann to a new experience.

Where there was nothing, now there was something.

Ata Ann enjoyed these sensations and with each new thought brought more and more into being by recycling what had gone before in new ways. But for each part that came into being a counterpart also appeared, night had day, male had female and dark had light. All the tiny parts of Ata Ann spread out across the Universes, feeling and sensing this new existence for Ata Ann.

For a long, long time, all things were one expression of change and balance.  Then one night, a tiny fragment of Ata Ann was dreaming and in the dream said "look at me, I am me different from you". The tiny fragment said "this is my rock and this is my tree and this is my food".

Ata Ann is waiting for this little fragment to wake up.

Society for Shamanic Practitioners

The Society for Shamanic Practitioners is a US based, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose goal is to support the re-emergence of shamanic wisdom into modern western culture.

The Society has approximately 850 members in 16 countries and continues to grow.   Many of our members are degreed and licensed healthcare practitioners, psychologists and/or social workers who help people by using shamanic interventions in their practices along with conventional western therapies. Some of our members have practices that are purely shamanic. Other members use shamanism to help communities, corporations, schools, and other institutions. Some of members are artists, poets, writers, actors, and dancers. And some are simply people who use shamanism to live their lives well.
